BLIND DATE (New Barbarians/Rolling Stones)

One more today since Keith is on my mind. I just Ripped this crazy Vinyl Bootleg from my collection called "Blind Date" This is ripped from the original POD RECORDS LABEL. They were throwing back a few, (Drunk) on this second show of the day recorded on 4/22/79 in Toronto, Canada @ the Oshawa Civic Auditorium. Despite the mistakes some fine music. I do like the jammin' on "Am I Groovin' You?" and "Miss You" As Always........ENJOY..........

The New Barbarians were a rock band that played two concerts in Canada and eighteen shows across the United States in April and May 1979; in August 1979, the band also supported Led Zeppelin at the Knebworth Festival 1979.
The group was formed and led by Rolling Stones and Faces guitarist Ronnie Wood, primarily to promote his latest LP Gimme Some Neck. The line-up included Rolling Stones member Keith Richards, bassist Stanley Clarke, former Faces keyboardist Ian McLagan, Rolling Stones confederate and saxophonist Bobby Keys and drummer Joseph Zigaboo Modeliste of The Meters.[1] For the Knebworth show Clarke was replaced on short notice by bassist Phillip Chen, who had to learn all the songs in one day.
The band played a mix of classic rock & roll, R&B, blues and country music, along with Ron Wood solo material and Jagger/Richards songs. Wood sang lead on most numbers (with Richards, McLagan and Clarke providing back-up vocals), as well as playing guitar, pedal steel, harmonica and saxophone.
The New Barbarians debuted as the Rolling Stones' support act at two charity concerts to benefit the CNIB at the Oshawa Civic Auditorium near Toronto, Ontario on 22 April 1979, fulfilling one of the conditions of Richards' 1978 sentence for possession of heroin.[2] The band's eighteen-gig US tour followed. They made news in Milwaukee, Wisconsin when fans rioted, apparently due to their expectation that the show would feature "special guests", who did not appear.[3] Another line-up of the New Barbarians - with Andy Newmark, Reggie McBride, MacKenzie Phillips and Johnnie Lee Schell replacing Clarke, Modeliste and Richards - played a "make-up date" in Milwaukee in January 1980 to help the promoter recoup the cost of the damages caused by the riot.[3][4]
In October 2006 Ronnie Wood's record label, Wooden Records, released a two-disc CD (followed a few months later by a triple LP set) of a New Barbarians concert at the (now former) Capital Center Arena in Largo, Maryland, entitled Buried Alive: Live in Maryland.

Recorded at the Civic Auditorium, Oshawa, Ontario, Canada on April 22nd 1979.  This is the 2nd show from this location. Like many of The New Barbarians shows this one is full of drunken debauchery. And it carries right into the Stones set as well. It seems everyone is drunk and I'm sure some other. They are a bit sloppy, and make a few mistakes here and there, but damn if their not having a grand ol' time. This show is a fun listen.

SO MUCH YOUNGER THAN TODAY (The Rolling Stones)

I'm sure most of you hard core Stones fans have this gem of a Bootleg from the late 60's from Swingin' Pig with Brian Jones. "So Much Younger Than Today" recorded off the radio in Honolulu on 7/28/66.

Broadcast live by Hawaiian radio (K-POI) :: 20 Bit Master Recording.
A wonderful soundboard recording from the last show of the Stones early summer tour, with the original Rolling Stone-the multi-talented Brian Jones in the band. Professionally recorded and mixed at the International Sports Center, Honolulu, Hawaii.  Recorded for a summer radio broadcast by KPOI (Honolulu) radio, this accounts for the fine sound quality. There are not too many early (pre-1969) Stones shows around in excellent sound fidelity, but this one is great. Performance wise, outstanding albeit a short show, as was the custom then. The band is very tight and rehearsed from two months of solid touring. Vocals, including backing vocals from Keith Richard and Brian Jones are very clear. To be sure, there is screaming on the numbers, but it isn't overpowering or too distracting. As noted, this was the last show of the tour, and also the very last American show with Brian Jones. The Stones did a 27-show European tour in late March-April 1967, then stopped touring until 1969. Brian Jones (for those who are too young to remember...) was fired by the Stones in June 1969, and died tragically in early July 1969 under mysterious circumstances. It was Brian Jones who formed the Rolling Stones with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards in 1961, with Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts joining later. A great early Stones show...Highly recommended for Stones fans...fantastic to hear it 43-years later. RIP Brian.<-(Info taken from bootlegzone.com).
